4.0 Technology – Digitalization of paper patterns with open source CAD and laser cutting
The idea is to insert 4.0 technology in our production process in order to save time by reinvesting in manual upcycling weaving.
We are organizing the digitalization of our paper patterns aimed at developing the laser and mechanized blade cutting process. The recovered time would then be reinvested in the production of a line entirely made in manual weaving with traditional table looms. The waste material produced by the cut itself is reused in the production of the line.
The resulting new product is innovative, as it has all the characteristics of upcycling production, it is transversal, since the modeling we are studying has no size and adapts to any shape, is nourished by the artisan value and the fabric produced with the material of scrap has a strong material connotation, woven textile waste creates interesting contrasts.
This project has a great immediate occupational value for us. Within our company it will serve to increase
the skills of our employees, with the possibility of training programs on digitization.
The manual weaving thus created does not require great initial skills and for this reason it can be used by anyone
and used in particular contexts where job opportunities are needed, such as prisons, communities or centers for disadvantaged people. The table frame, moreover, is easily transportable because of its small size and does not require electricity. Furthermore, weaving is a therapeutic art that has long been used in art therapy.
